FORMER Northern Rivers girl and TV star Katherine Hicks has been given a second shot at winning a Logie award.
The Channel Nine star, who plays Heidi Wilson on Rescue Special Ops, has been nominated for the Most Popular Actress award at the Logies, which will be presented in Melbourne on May 1.
Last year Katherine just missed out on winning the Best New Talent Logie.
“Being listed for a nomination for the Logies and to get another chance to win is really exciting,” she said.
Katherine attended Alstonville High School before appearing in the popular TV show Heartbreak High, which got her ‘hooked’ on acting.
She returned to the region to finish her HSC at Byron Bay High School and dabbled in various theatre productions with the Lismore Theatre Company, Theatre North and the Byron Bay Theatre Company.
Proud Tintenbar mum Jennie Hicks has watched her daughter successfully rise to the top of the Australian TV scene.
Mrs Hicks even got a taste of the celebrity life herself last year when she attended the Logies in Melbourne on the arm of her daughter.
While Katherine missed out on the gong last time, she is “over the moon” to have another chance to claim an award, Mrs Hicks said.
“It gives her another opportunity to get a Logie and throughout the process you become known quite well and meet other people in the business,” she said.
“Even if you don’t win, in the end the whole process is very positive.”
Mrs Hicks has also not ruled out another invitation to the awards.
“It depends on whether Katherine wins a final nomination and whether I might take precedence over her boyfriend,” she laughed.
“It was an amazing experience and it was quite intense. I got to see all these well-known people and was looking around saying ‘Oh, there is Kerri-Anne Kennerley and there is Sigrid Thornton’.
“We went to a few after-parties and people got to let their hair down a bit, which was interesting.”
Mrs Hicks says that she speaks to Katherine on the television set each time she puts herself in a dangerous situation as part of her role on Rescue Special Ops.
“I see her on TV and say ‘Oh Katherine, don’t go down that well, or don’t go near that drainpipe’ while I am watching her on television,” she said.
