OPINION: Are CDs a thing of the past?

THIS Monday I received a Compact Disc via mail.

Mail? Compact Disc? I felt like I was back in 1997 again.

After I recovered from the initial shock, I put it aside to listen to it later.

And that's when I realised my mind has been living in 2003 while my body belongs to 2016.

Why do I say that? Well, in my mind I still had CD players available to me, like I did in 2003.

Truth is, CD players have been eradicated from my life just like fax machines are now a thing of the past.

There was no official date, no headline announcing the new policy, no warning from some Government think tank, nothing.

Hence, I spent some good ten minutes looking for a slot to introduce the CD in my car, only to realise my 2016 model is too cool for school and does not accept any type of physical music device.

Not even laptops (if you work from a desktop you may have to donate it to a museum soon) offer the chance to play discs anymore, I discovered with a certain degree of perplexity.

So I went on a technological quest, upgraded all my apps, and swore to never listen to a CD again...

Until the hipsters make them trendy again.
