Online transaction ends with man fighting for his life

A TEENAGER has undergone surgery for gunshot wounds to his chest and a 62-year-old stranger is fighting for his life after a deal struck on a social networking site turned sour in Sydney's west.

A simple online advertisement for a mobile phone allegedly led three teenagers, aged 17, 18 and 19, to a street in Merrylands late Wednesday.

Police have been told the teenagers were stopped by two men.

When the car pulled over, another two men allegedly appeared and one, armed with a handgun, jumped in the back seat and demanded money.

An argument broke out and the 19-year-old was allegedly shot several times in the chest, stomach and arm.

A 62-year-old resident who came out of his home following the shooting was also allegedly shot in the chest.

The four alleged aggressors fled and the teenagers drove to a nearby petrol station where they called for help.

The 19-year-old was recovering in hospital on Wednesday but the older man remained in a critical condition.

Raids were carried out on a Merrylands home on Wednesday afternoon and a 27-old-old man was arrested.

He was charged with armed robbery, grievous bodily harm and shoot with intent.

Police are still hunting his alleged accomplices.
