One Direction member feels Coast beach calling his name
ONE fifth of a band called One Direction can't wait to get back to the Sunshine Coast one day.
Band member Liam Payne revealed to Kawana local and big-wave surfer Mark Visser that he wants to surf the breakers at Kawana again.
Mr Visser met up with Payne, 20, for a surf off Surfers Paradise on Sunday.
One Direction are touring Australia and have performed for the past three nights at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
They have been spotted enjoying their free time on the Gold Coast, but Visser said at least one of the band members had ambitions to make it to our coast.
He (Liam) loves it up here," Mr Visser said.
"Kawana was one of the best waves he ever had, he told me."
Mr Visser yesterday admitted to not knowing exactly who One Direction, arguably the biggest band in the world at the time being, were when he first met Liam and fellow band member Louis Tomlinson in April last year on the Coast.
"Part of their management team knew someone in my management team and they just asked if I'd help out a band," he said.
"I was helping them in surf for hour or so, but didn't know who they were.
"I wished them all the best, but didn't know all about it. It wasn't until it got out on social media that I realised how big their following was.
"I know all about 1D now."
"We talk about surfing and fitness stuff. He's into that side of life.
"He's training every day. He's keen to stay fit enough so when he comes back he can surf.
"One year on and you can see the improvement in his form."
One Direction's next show is tomorrow night in Sydney.
