Olympic swimmer in hit-and-run

AUSTRALIAN freestyler Kenrick Monk has had his Olympic preparation thrown into chaos after being involved in a hit-and-run accident yesterday.

Commonwealth Games relay gold medallist  will see a specialist today after being knocked off his push bike, breaking his elbow in two places, on his way to afternoon training in Brisbane yesterday.

The 200m freestyle specialist, who first represented Australia in 2006 at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games before going on to swim at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, was knocked off his bike yesterday afternoon on Central Avenue in the suburb of Indooroopilly, Brisbane.

Swimming Australia's media release said he was knocked unconscious but he was eventually able to get assistance by teammates Ned McKendry, Nick D'Arcy and Stephanie Rice immediately following the accident, before being taken to the Wesley Hospital for treatment.

Spending the night in hospital, Monk said this morning that he's feeling a little banged up but certainly a lot better than he did yesterday.
