School zone speedster arrested after police car chase

A LISMORE man will face court this morning charged with over a dozen offences after his arrest following a high-speed police pursuit on Friday.

The 25 year old had five outstanding warrants at the time of arrest.

Police were conducting stationary speed enforcement on Nimbin Rd at 2.48pm in a 40km school zone when the driver allegedly sped through in excess of 60km.

The car was stopped by police and the front passenger got out before the driver accelerated away.

Police identified the passenger who fled through police in-car videos and used that information to work out the identity of the driver. The alleged driver was arrested at a Lillian Rock Rd property on Friday night.

The man was refused bail on Saturday and will face Lismore Local Court on charges of assault occasioning bodily harm, contravening an apprehended violence order, break and enter, steal, exceed speed greater than 10km in a school zone, police pursuit, failing to stop for police, drive dangerously, drive while disqualified, use an unregistered motor vehicle, use an uninsured motor vehicle, three larceny offences and one charge of malicious damage.

The man also held five outstanding warrants at the time of arrest.

Richmond Local Area Command Sergeant Craig Ahrens said the charges related to incidents alleged to have occurred between February 26 and March 6, including the ones related to the chase on Friday.
