Obeid faces another inquiry over claims he misused position

EMBATTLED NSW Labor powerbroker Eddie Obeid will front yet another public inquiry - this time over claims he attempted to influence Sydney retail leases, the corruption watchdog has revealed.

In a statement released on Thursday, the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption announced Operation Cyrus would investigate allegations that, between 2010 and 2011, Mr Obeid misused his position as an MP to influence other public officials with respect to leases at Circular Quay.

It will also be alleged that during the same period, Mr Obeid encouraged officials to make decisions favouring Direct Health Solutions Pty Ltd and directions regarding the review and granting of water licences at Cherrydale Park.

In light of the findings made following previous inquiries into the granting of coal mining exploration licences, Assistant Commissioner Anthony Whealy QC, will hear the separate allegations.

The first hearing will be held in Sydney on October 28.
