Police say drivers need attitude change after nine deaths

DRIVERS have been warned to improve their attitudes or face the consequences following the death of nine people on NSW roads over nine days.

Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander Assistant Commissioner John Hartley said the rash of dangerous driving behaviour seen over the Easter and Queen's Birthday long weekends had not eased despite warnings from police.

"Events of the last nine days have shown us that these attitudes and behaviours are still rife on NSW roads and they're taking lives," he said on Monday.

"In the last nine days, the families, friends, and workmates of nine people have had to make sense out of the death of a loved one in a road crash."

Mr Hartley said more officers and highway patrol cars would be on the state's roads as Operation Saturation continues.

"However, we can't do this alone. Drivers, riders and other road users are reminded to take responsibility for their behaviour on the road," he said.
