POLE dancing often conjures up perceptions of night clubs and bars.
But as these Tweed women describe it is a fun and exciting way to get fit and get a full body workout.
It caters for all levels of ability and experience, from the beginner pole dancer to advanced pole enthusiasts.
Owners and instructors Shayla Barlett and Jaime Brewer recently took over management of Pole Catz Tweed Heads Studio.
"In December last year the opportunity to join the Pole Catz Australia Dance Fitness Studios team as manager and owners became available and we jumped at the chance," Miss Barlett said.
Shayla and Jaime have 11 and 13 years of dance experience with various styles including hip hop, jazz, belly dancing, aerial tissue, zumba, burlesque, pole dancing and contemporary between them.
Our classes are designed to begin with easier moves (beginner level) to build confidence and start building strength," Mrs Brewer said.
"Pole dancing gives an all over body workout. It works several muscle groups, strengthening the upper body, including biceps, triceps, shoulder muscles, and pectoral muscles. It exercises abdominal muscles, the legs, buttocks and builds core strength."
Pole dancing student Debbie Carlson has been pole dancing for two and a half years and plans to do many more.
"I first started looking into it for a form of exercise and fitness. I don't like going to the gym, pole is so much better," Mrs Carlson said.
"The benefits I have gained are extreme fitness, core strength, flexibility, balance and I've made some really good friends."
"I have lots of fun and laughs with the girls trying out new moves and routines. Everyone is easy going and good to get along with.
"The studio also hosts hen's parties for those looking for a hen's party with a difference.
Brides-to-be can choose one of the two hour naughty nights out packages ranging from a basic pole or burlesque package to a deluxe pole or burlesque package.
