Dangerous surf and fire conditions expected today, tomorrow
NORTHERN Rivers residents are warned to be on alert with dangerous surf and fire conditions expected over the weekend.
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a significant 4-6m southerly swell with a long swell period of about 12-14 seconds, which is expected to build rapidly today and peak tomorrow.
With strong winds also forecast, these conditions will be hazardous for coastal activities such as swimming, surfing and rock fishing.
Rural Fire Service Northern Rivers Operations Officer Daniel Ainsworth said low relative humidity and strong winds were forecast.
"The fire danger index is expected to peak at about 30," he said, "which is a rating of Very High, and continue in the high range over the weekend."
