No Splendour for Ewingsdale site

There is no chance of Splendour in the Grass moving to the planned Ewingsdale Sports Centre at Byron Bay. That’s the message from organisers.

Mat Morris, general manager of Splendour’s North Byron Shire Parklands site at Yelgun, said there had been suggestions that Splendour could relocate to the proposed sports centre.

But Mr Morris said while it would be a tremendous asset for sporting activities and small cultural events,

Splendour organisers had investigated the site prior to the council buying it as a part of a long and strategic search for a sustainable events venue. He said the site was unsuitable for the festival.

Splendour organisers are due to meet soon with Byron Council to discuss options after the recent Land and Environment Court decision which overturned council approval for a trial event at Yelgun.
