No-risk approach as Kiwi squad is hit by illness

NEW Zealand could be forced to rest up to three players for its final World Cup Pool A game against Bangladesh in Hamilton on Friday, after they were struck down by illness.

Coach Mike Hesson did not disclose who the players were, or the nature of their illness, but said he would not take any risks despite the big gap to the team's quarter-final on March 21.

"Hopefully they'll recover in time," Hesson (pictured) said. "At least two or three are down, so we'll see how they scrub up."

The Black Caps have used the same 11 players in all four games during the tournament, Hesson saying he would not use the match against Bangladesh to give other players an opportunity.

"If these guys are fit and still performing they'll get first chance," he said.

"We are in the middle of a World Cup and it's not a matter of thinking about tomorrow; it's a matter of making sure we do not drop the ball."
