No funds for new Byron hospital

The planned new central hospital at Byron Bay seems just as far away as ever after the project missed out on funding in last week’s NSW Budget.

It is planned for a site in Ewingsdale Road at Ewingsdale on land owned by NSW Health and will be designed to service the whole shire.

The North Coast Area Health Service said the planned new hospital remained a priority.

The Ewingsdale site also will be home to a new ambulance station to replace the one in Jonson Street.

In the budget, $1.35 million was allocated for the construction of the new station, due for completion next year.

State Member for Ballina, Don Page, said the State Government continued to let down the region in health infrastructure funding.
