No Franklin, Swans don’t give a damn

THEY won the 2012 premiership without key forwards Lance Franklin and Kurt Tippett, and the Sydney Swans will have to try to beat early season flag favourites Port Adelaide without the pair tonight.

Both accepted one-game suspensions for incidents in last Friday night's 18-point loss to Richmond, with Sam Reid and Adam Goodes likely to be the main targets in attack against the Power.

Despite their absence, Power coach Ken Hinkley said his side still faced a tough task.

"They (the Swans) are not Buddy or Kurt Tippett away from being a good side," Hinkley said.

Forward/ruckman Paddy Ryder will play his first game for Port since round eight after recovering from an Achilles complaint.

The Power is coming off a bye but the players were put through a tough conditioning session last weekend in an effort to improve their attack on the ball.

Hinkley said the team's effort had lacked consistency in the first half of the season. "We need to make sure we attack the back half of the year with just a few key ingredients … a hardness around the footy, a real determination to work hard for each other," he said.

The Swans have had just six days to recover from the loss to Richmond, but midfielder Jarrad McVeigh said he didn't believe that would be an issue.

"We're happy to play again straight away because we lost and we want to get back on the winner's board," McVeigh said.

"They're rested and ready to go, but that's fine. When the ball is bounced it doesn't really matter who has had more of a break."
