No flat fee for Yellow Cab fare between Emu Park, Yeppoon

WHEN Yeppoon Yellow Cab Company director Ron Ware flicked through to the letters to the editor pages of the Morning Bulletin his jaw nearly dropped.

As the director of the taxi company, he was horrified to find a text message in the paper about cab rides between Emu Park and Yeppoon being rather costly.

Around $100, the letter claimed.

Mr Ware has been a taxi owner for about eight years.

Yesterday he wanted to give locals an absolute guarantee that a $100 fare from Emu Park to Yeppoon was a load of garbage.

Do you think the cab fares in the region are reasonable?

The text message, from CJ, Rocky City, said: "I've been spending some time on the wrong side of the tracks, aka Livingstone, and I've been told there is a flat fee of $100 to get a cab from Emu Park to Yeppoon and vice versa."

"Can anyone confirm if that is the case?"

Mr Ware said a fare in a regular Yellow Cab taxi between Emu Park and Yeppoon costs about $55.

From Yeppoon to Rockhampton, a fare was usually about $140.

However, it was up to the driver if he or she negotiated fares with people catching the cabs.

For example, if someone in Yeppoon approached a cab driver for a ride to Rockhampton, and stated they only had $100, it was up to drivers whether they were willing to transport the passenger. However, drivers were not allowed to over-charge passengers. "If anyone is over-charged, contact me," he said.
