"I turn back, but all I hear is the bursting and explosion of flames" NZ Herald

Nine-year-old 'Gabi' scares world with terrifying poem

CHILDREN say the darndest things.

And sometimes they deliver something so scary that we all stop to pay attention.

The Los Angeles Times published a number of poems from children in its "Creativity Corner".

One wrote about seashells, another wrote about parakeets.

But Gabi, 9, from Pegasus School, Huntington Beach "really took it up a notch".

The fire is red as blood.

I watch the flames go up in the air as I taste the sadness of the people whose houses have burnt to the ground.

I turn back, but all I hear is the bursting and explosion of flames.

It's time for Gabi's parents to cut back her juice intake. Or increase it. Whatever stops her from filling our hearts with terror.
