ONE of the first mathematical concepts children learn is geometry. Geometry is all about lines, angles, surfaces and shapes and their properties.

Shapes are the forms, external boundaries, outlines, or external surfaces of an object.

Most children can recognize, draw and even name basic two-dimensional shapes like squares, triangles, circles and ovals before they enter school.

Knowledge and understanding of shapes and their properties provides the tools that help us represent and visualise our world by discovering patterns, finding areas, volumes, lengths and angles.
