Newborn mauled by dog in family home

A NEWBORN baby is recovering in a Sydney hospital after the family dog mauled her while she slept in her bassinette at the end of her parent's bed.

The alaskan malamute bit the seven-day-old girl on the face during the early hours of Monday morning in the family home at Campbelltown in the city's south-west.

The girl was transferred to the Sydney Children's Hospital at Randwick on Monday where she underwent surgery.

Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
