New My Kitchen Rules twist after Block ratings bust-up
THEY thought they had survived the instant restaurant rounds, but the My Kitchen Rules contestants are heading back home.
Channel 7 has announced a new "ultimate instant restaurant" round for the current fifth series of the reality cooking show.
The teams will have to show what they've learned through the food truck and kitchen headquarters challenges in their home kitchens to earn a spot in the finals.
The ultimate instant restaurant round is expected to start some time next month.
The current series is the most successful to date, improving on last year's launch by 18 percent and averaging a national (metro and regional) audience of 2.7 million viewers each night.
But the new twist comes after Nine's The Block: Fans vs Faves has been making steady gains.
The renovation show beat My Kitchen Rules in last night's highly competitive 6.30pm time slot, drawing in 1.758 million viewers across the five metro cities compared to MKR's 1.545 million.
The Block's final interior room reveals was the most-watched program of the night in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, while MKR was the most-watched program in Adelaide and Perth.
Meanwhile, MKR's resident Frenchman Feildel will host his own cooking series called My France With Manu.
The series, which will debut next month, features Feildel taking viewers on a culinary journey through his native province of Brittany.
