New members for Rockhampton Zoo chimp family

FROM koalas to crocodiles, everyone has a favourite animal at the Rockhampton Zoo.

If you're a chimp lover, Rockhampton Zoo has a real treat for you.

Over the past few years, Rockhampton Regional Council has worked hard to upgrade the Rocky Zoo and the next item on the agenda is introducing two new chimps to the family.

Chair of Rockhampton Regional Council Parks and Recreation Committee councillor Cherie Rutherford said the Rockhampton Zoo was a great asset to the region and its continued development was vital.

"Everybody has favourite animals. You talk to some of the children and they're here to see the koalas, you talk to others and they're here to see the chimps and others just want to see the crocodiles," Cr Rutherford said.

"Each exhibit here is just wonderful and for the community to be able to come and walk around it's great.

"There have been some massive improvements made to the zoo over the past few years and there is still some to go.

"Bit by bit we want to keep chipping away at that and make sure we provide the best environment for the animals that are here.

"We're working as quickly as we can towards two more chimps here, so that's all very exciting."
