New Kia hatch mirrors sedan at $19,990 starting point

KIA'S new Cerato hatch will hit the market priced from $19,990.

The three-tier line-up mirrors the sedan derivative which was launched in April this year. Automatic transmissions  attract a $2000 premium over manual boxes, while sat nav is $1000 on the range-topping SLi model.

Kia has been desperate to get its full Cerato range into showrooms, with more than 60% of the small cars sold in Australia coming from the hatch realm.

About one in four cars sold Down Under are in the small segment.

This is the third car to be launched by Kia this year, following the Cerato sedan in April and the Rondo seven-seater in June.

Coming later this year will be the Koup, which was today confirmed to have a turbo powerplant under its skin. Next year we will see a new Soul, Optima, Carnival, and the much-anticipated Pro Cee'd GT hot hatch.

But for now, the Cerato hatch is the latest arrival.

Standard equipment includes 16-inch steel wheels, front and rear parking sensors, six airbags, cruise control, MP3 compatible CD player, Bluetooth functionality (phone/media stream) and air con.

The Si gains alloys, rear view camera, auto lights, smart key with push button start, premium steering wheel and shift knob, 4.3-inch colour  touch-screen and a rear air  vent.

SLi gets the plush treatment, adding 17-inch alloys, LED daytime running lights, eight-way power driver's seat plus lumbar support, colour TFT instrument cluster, sunroof, sports pedals and cooled glovebox, dual zone air con.
