NBN Co CEO Mike Quigley resigns

AFTER four years leading the roll-out of the National Broadband Network, and amid retirement rumours, NBN Co chief executive Mike Quigley signed off on Friday.

The first employee of the government-owned corporation, Mr Quigley oversaw the roll-out of fibre optic cables past more than 200,000 residences.

Mr Quigley said his job was to lay the foundations for the NBN for the next 30 years, and that role was largely complete.

He said he joined because he believed in better communications for the country, but did not detail why he had decided to leave the company.

Communications Minister Anthony Albanese said Mr Quigley was instrumental in negotiating a deal with Telstra for the roll-out, and the government was proud of what he achieved.

Mr Quigley will remain in the role until the NBN Co board has found a replacement.
