TENNIS: Andy Murray is eyeing the No.1 spot in the world rankings after winning his sixth title of the year.

Murray defeated Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut at the Shanghai Masters 7-6 (7-1) 6-1 to match his season-high total from 2009.

After winning his second Wimbledon crown, second Olympic gold medal plus the tour titles, Murray has closed to within 900 points of Novak Djokovic at the top of the rankings.

And while he doesn't think he will catch his rival this year, he will keep pushing for his dream.

"I will try to finish this year as strong as I can. And next year if the opportunity is there to reach No. 1, then I want to try and take it,” Murray said.

"It's going to be a tough thing to achieve that. I'm aware of that.

"But I believe I can get there. ... These last few months have proved that to me.”

Murray's win in China was a carerer-best 65th of the season and he also picked up his 41st tour title, to move alongside Stefan Edberg for 15th place on the all-time list.
