THE DODGE GOES DOWN: Murderous, bent ex-cops found guilty

FORMER police detectives Roger Rogerson and Glen McNamara have been found guilty of murdering Sydney student Jamie Gao over a drug deal in 2014.

Rogerson, 70, and McNamara, 57, had pleaded not guilty to shooting the 20-year-old in a storage unit and dumping his body in the ocean off Cronulla.

Both men blamed each other for Gao's death.

Rogerson pulled the trigger and threatened to kill McNamara's family if he did not co-operate with the body's disposal, McNamara claimed.

Rogerson declared he was outside the storage unit when McNamara struggled with Gao and shot him.

After a four-month trial, a jury found the former police officers conspired to murder Gao in order to steal 2.78kg of the drug ice from him. The ice was later found under a seat in McNamara's car.

The pair concealed his corpse in a surfboard bag, hired a pulley system from a rental store and used McNamara's boat to drop the body at sea.

The lifeless body was found wrapped in a tarpaulin, floating off popular surfing spot Shelly Beach six days after the murder.

"It simply came to a case of three men walking into a unit and two coming out," Detective Inspector Russell Oxford told reporters.

A sentence hearing is scheduled for August 25.
