Murder of prostitute a mystery but CCTV footage may help

POLICE hope CCTV footage will help them catch a killer responsible for the murder of a Melbourne prostitute.

Tracey Connelly, 40, was found dead in the back of the van she had been living in on July 21.

Few clues had emerged surrounded her murder but police have found vital footage which shows the St Kilda sex-worker returning to her van about 1.30am, more than two hours after she was last seen.

Homicide detectives have reviewed the footage and investigations are continuing.

A candlelit vigil will was expected to be held at the murder site on Thursday night.
