Mum charged with assaulting her baby

A MOTHER has been charged with the assault of her baby after a concerned member of the public took the injured infant to a Sydney police station.

Cronulla police called an ambulance when an eight-month-old girl was brought to the counter with swelling to her right eye on Sunday night.

Officers were told the baby's parents had been fighting outside a restaurant earlier in the evening.

The baby spent the night at the Sutherland Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

A 42-year-old Miranda woman has been charged with assaulting her child and 39-year-old partner.

She was released on conditional bail and will front court on Wednesday.
