Mullum take derby points

Mullumbimby got the better of their cross-shire rivals, Byron Bay Red Devils in the local derby NRRRL clash last weekend winning a tight game 22-20.

The Devils went to the half- time break with a slender two point lead of 12-10.

As can be expected when these two teams meet, the game had the usual heated exchanges with an all-in brawl resulting in two Byron players and one Mullum player cooling their heals in the sin bin.

The second half was a see-sawing affair with Mullum hitting the front in the 27th minute for the first time in the game.

Byron Bay scored a try on the bell but unfortunately for the Devils, the conversion attempt went wide of the post.

Poor kicking and ball retention were the main contributors to the Devils’ loss leaving the side in a precarious position to make the finals relying on other results and wins in the remaining two games.

Byron Bay reserves fought back to win their fifth game on the trot cementing their position in the five with a real cliff-hanger in winning 34-32.

This weekend the Devils host Ballina Seagulls, with Mullumbimby away to Northern United in Lismore.
