Mullumbimby 20 Cudgen 18
Byron Bay12 Lower Clarence 24
Mullumbimby Giants will host the major preliminary semi-final of the NRRRRL competition on Sunday afternoon, taking on surprise-package newcomers, Northern United.
Both teams finished on 28 points, four behind minor premiers, Lower Clarence, after last weekend’s final round which saw the Giants get up 20-18 over Cudgen at Kingscliff and United flog Marist Brothers 66-26.
Mullumbimby’s reserve grade side finished as minor premiers and get a week off.
It was a different story for Byron Shire neighbours and reigning premiers, Byron Bay Red Devils, who travelled to Maclean on Sunday to take on high-flying Lower Clarence.
The Devils needed to win to have the right to host the minor semi-final, but fell well short with an uninspiring performance which resulted in a 24-12 win to Lower.
The loss, combined with Grafton Ghosts’ 22-16 win over the Tweed Coast Raiders, means the semi-final will be played at Grafton on Saturday.
The Red Devils’ reserve grade side also will be travelling to Grafton on Saturday to take on Evans Head.
