More negative poll results for Labor

ANOTHER poll has illustrated the challenge facing Labor as it heads towards the September 14 federal election.

While it was not as bad as the Newspoll released on Monday, which had Labor trailing the Coalition 56-44, the Essential Report poll published today was still not great.

It had the Coalition leading Labor 54-46% on a two-party-preferred basis.

Labor could at least take heart from the fact it did not lose ground despite its turbulent week.

In fact, the primary vote and two-party-preferred numbers have been remarkably stable in Essential's weekly survey, which comprises two-week averages.

The Coalition's primary vote has not budged from a robust 48% for the past three weeks, while Labor's rating was down one point this week to 35% after two weeks at 36%.
