More than four million watch NRL grand final nailbiter

IT'S no surprise the NRL grand final was the most-watched program last night.

The North Queensland Cowboys' dramatic one-point victory over the Broncos was watched a peak national audience of 4.227 million viewers and an average national audience of 3.667 million.

But the all Queensland premiership clash isn't the most-watched sporting event of the year. It comes in behind State of Origin Game II, which peaked at 4.539 million viewers in June.

The Cowboys' first ever grand final win, which saw Dally M winner Johnathan Thurston score the golden point for his team, did draw in more winners than Australia's Cricket World Cup Victory over New Zealand earlier this year.

The match is also the highest-rating NRL grand final in Brisbane since 2006 with an average audience of 788,000.
