Monday is a biggie for TV

IF YOU'VE turned on your tellie in recent weeks then you'll undoubtedly be aware that Monday is going to be a big night of TV.

The message is being rammed home on our screens and, like me, you're probably ready for the networks to just get on with it.

It's a no-holds-barred start to the ratings period as the commercial free-to-air channels bring out their big guns.

For Seven that's My Kitchen Rules and Steve Peacocke's return to Home and Away.

For Nine, it's the revamped Australia's Got Talent and The Farmer Wants A Wife.

Ten, meanwhile, is launching its two big shows, I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and The X-Files tomorrow, a day early, and continuing both on Monday night. So what to watch?

As none of these shows are technically new, chances are you already know what you'll enjoy and what you have absolutely no interest in.

Both AGT and Farmer have only been off the air for a few years. The hosts and judges are new, but the format is the same.

MKR is now in its seventh year and follows the same overall storyline with new teams filling in the obligatory hero, villain, larrikin and comedy roles.

Hey, if it ain't broke don't fix it. We all know the show wears the reality tag loosely but even seven years in I find it hard not to get sucked in to the drama.

For me The X-Files is the most exciting thing on TV over the next few days.

I was a huge fan of the original series, even though I was barely old enough to handle some of the scarier storylines or fully understand Mulder and Scully's complicated relationship.

Their long-awaited reunion is ripe for new story opportunities and early reviews coming out of the US have been mostly positive.

The truth, it seems, is still out there and still worth watching.
