HUMBLE Casino cabbie Noel Schumacher has taken out the NSW Taxi Service's Country Taxi Driver of the Year.
Chosen from drivers right across country NSW, Mr Schumacher picked up the honour for his exemplary service and communication.
His boss, Ashley Clark-Smith, owner of Casino Cabs, couldn't speak highly enough of his deserving driver.
“You'd love to have another dozen like Noel,” he said. “He's got the morals and the integrity and he's always there to help.
“Nothing is a problem and he always goes over and above what's expected of him. I'm always getting calls from people telling me how much he's helped them out.
Mr Schumacher was somewhat bemused by all the fuss and not particularly partial to the attention. He has been a cabbie for 17 years now and specialises in wheelchair accessible taxis.
“It's not about the money,” the modest cabbie said. “It's all about how you feel at the end of the day.
“I love working with disabled people, especially the kids. Taking them to school every day you become a part of the family.
“It gives me a good feeling knowing I'm helping people less fortunate than us.
“Casino Cabs has been good to me too. They give me the incentive to keep going.”
His favourite fare this year was taking a man to Brisbane who had missed the train.
“He didn't speak English, and I didn't speak his language but we somehow managed to communicate.”
Mr Schumacher won $1500 in cash and a $500 UNIGAS voucher.
