A KEY Facebook executive believes teenagers may never buy a desktop or laptop computer.
Nick Bowditch, a marketing manager for the social media giant, made the comments while addressing the National Small Business Summit in Brisbane on Thursday.
Businesses will need to ensure their websites can be easily viewed on mobile devices, rather than relying on the "old school" method of using a site built for computers, he said.
"Who knows what (teenagers) will be using in five years, but I can tell you what they're using right now," Mr Bowditch said.
These devices sit beside the beds, earning their place alongside wallets and keys as things to have when leaving the house.
Mr Bowditch also spoke briefly about Facebook's new "graph search", a search tool that allows users to find out where friends have been and what they liked.
He said this was not an example of Facebook competing against Google, because Google had little access to the social network's internal workings and Facebook had no ability to search the larger internet.
