Misbah-ul-Haq misses ton once again

HE TURNS 41 in May, and surely time is running out for Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq to make a one-day international century.

The hard-hitting middle-order batsman already held the record for the most ODI matches without a hundred, and extended that to 159 after making 65 off 48 balls against the UAE in their World Cup clash in Napier, Pakistan reaching a formidable 6-339 off its 50 overs.

The veteran (pictured) also has the record for the most ODI half-centuries by a Pakistani captain, now standing at 26.

The match also saw all-rounder Shahid Afridi became the 27th player to reach 8000 ODI runs, knocking up a quickfire 21 off seven balls at the death.

Pakistani paceman Wahab Riaz sent one fan home happy after smashing the only ball he faced into the stands for six. The fan, wearing the required orange Tui t-shirt, caught the ball one-handed, making him eligible for a share of a potential $A967,000 prize pool. He became the fourth fan to take a one-handed catch at a World Cup game in New Zealand. The UAE never challenged, reaching 8 for 210. Khurram Khan (43 from 54 balls) and Shaiman Anwar (62 off 88 balls) ensured their team would bat out the 50 overs but never looked likely to reach the target.
