Carmichael Coal mine approval can only be good for Clermont

CLERMONT-BASED Bennett Contracting and Plant Hire owner Greg Bennett was delighted with the new mine news.

"From my point of view it's positive, with the downturn and things being quiet in Central Queensland it can only be a positive thing," he said.

Clermont's Leo Hotel Motel owner Les Boal said it would be a good thing for the town.

"It couldn't be any worse than it is now, it is very slow," he said.

"Everything will now flow on into the town."

He also hoped other improvements might occur because of the potential mine, such as infrastructure upgrades.

Mackay Regional Economic Development Corporation acting chief executive Amanda Camm said the decision was one "the region really needed given the current economic climate".
