Bangalow Public School Year 5 pupil, Michael Krippner, 10, will compete in the State final of the Premier's Spelling Challenge in Sydney in November.

He won his spot in the decider after winning the local final of the challenge at Alstonville Public School last week against 40 other top spellers, including classmate, Carl Ashworth, who took second place.

Proud father, Ross, said Michael read extensively and had a good memory.

The final will be held at the ABC Centre at Ultimo on November 18.

Showing he is an all-rounder, Michael was part of the Bangalow team which competed this week in the Maths Olympiad at Coffs Harbour, he was a representative soccer play in the just-completed season, and he was the school's 11-years swimming champion, after competing in the zone swimming championships earlier this year.
