THOUSANDS are expected to attend a public memorial tomorrow for the police officer gunned down during a botched armed hold-up at Pacific Pines last week.

Detective Senior Constable Damian Leeding will be given full police honours in a service to be held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre from 11am.

He will be given a police escourt, guard of honour and as a mark of respect, flags at all State Government buildings will fly at half mast on the day.

After the public service will be a private funeral.

The flag at Coomera station, where Detective Senior Constable Leeding worked, was lowered to half mast on Wednesday following his death in hospital and will remain at half mast up to and including the day of the funeral.

Police establishments in the South East Police Region (Gold Coast, Coomera and Logan districts) lowered their flags to half mast on Thursday.

Three people have been charged with his murder after he was shot in the face.
