THEY were tipped to be the dark horses of the competition, but MKR's Matt and Rob are now at the back of the pack.

The mates risk elimination after scoring just 45 points, one point less than Eva and Debra, for their three-course meal tonight.

The oyster farmers faced some tough criticism from judges Pete Evans and Manu Feildel, whose expectations were high.

Despite having to go with their second choice of oyster variety, it was Matt and Rob's decision to wash the oysters in fresh water that cost them points.

The Bloody Mary oyster shots they served their guests upon arrival would unfortunately turn out to be the best thing they presented all night.

"My critique is going to be very difficult because I've been eating oysters pretty much all my life and if there was only one thing to eat left on the planet I wish it would be oysters," Manu said of the entree.

"I really love oysters, and I feel that you've actually ruined a beautiful jewel of the sea."

Matt promised to take the feedback on board and Pete praised the blokes for their positive attitude.

But they were doomed from the start with their main course. They committed to cooking quail, despite having no previous experience cooking the game meat.

"You've definitely thrown yourselves in the deep end but I don't know whether I can save you," Pete said.

"There's no real soul to that bird or the filling and we've got a salad on the side that hasn't been dressed.

"I applaud you for taking a risk but it hasn't worked for you this evening."

Their unevenly cooked brownies only partially redeemed them.

"I've got to say (it's) probably the best dish of the night," Manu said.

"It's nice but I'm just not completely satisfied with it."

Mother and son Rose and Josh will host their Spanish-themed instant restaurant tomorrow night.
