STREET theatre, brass bands, magicians and puppets are set to make the annual Mary Poppins Festival one of the liveliest yet.

The week-long explosion of colour, art, culture and fun will run from Sunday, June 26, with Sunday in the Park and finish on July 3 with the Mary Poppins in the Park extravaganza.

Principal office events manager Kim Griffith could not agree more and is hoping to better last year's festival numbers.

“Between 10,000 and 15,000 attended the festival in the park last year,” she said.

“It was a fantastic event and we are showing the best that Maryborough has to offer.”

Maryborough celebrates a unique link to the iconic nanny as the author of Mary Poppins, Pamela Travers, was born in the Heritage City.

“It is an extremely popular festival because it's the only one of its kind in the world,” Ms Griffith said.

“An event truly unique to Maryborough's special heritage.”

The festival is also set to include Mary Poppins characters, madcap nanny races, workshops, rides, and an appearance from Carmel Murdoch who plays Mary Poppins in the Sydney Musical.

“It's good clean fun for the whole family,” Ms Griffith said.

“There really is something for everyone ...”
