Man’s body found in 24-hour gym

GYM-goers seeking an early morning workout have discovered the body of a man who died while exercising in a 24-hour Murwillumbah gym.

A spokesman from Sierra Fitness on Wollumbin St, which is often not staffed outside business hours, said the man, in his 70s, was a well-known regular.

He said the man had visited the gym in the early hours of the morning before suffering a heart attack last Saturday. Members coming in for a workout had found him.

It is understood the man, who was a horse trainer, visited the fitness centre twice a day.

A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman confirmed they attended the incident about 6.50am.

Tweed-Byron Local Area Command Inspector Adrian Telfer said the death was not being treated as suspicious.
