Man fined $1000 for 'stupid, foolish and imprudent' act

SCOTT Geoffrey Smith was fined $1000 when he appeared in Rockhampton Magistrates Court after what Magistrate Cameron Press described as a "stupid, foolish and imprudent" act.

Smith pleaded guilty to using a firearm under the influence of alcohol.

The court heard police were called to an address at The Range after neighbours reported hearing shots and seeing a man using a rifle.

Smith told police he had been drinking that afternoon and set up a target in the back yard which he was firing at from the balcony.
