Body found after man killed by croc at NT birthday party

THE body of young man taken by a crocodile during birthday celebrations at a Northern Territory resort has been recovered by police.

Despite being warned by staff at a wilderness retreat about the dangers lurking in the croc-infested Mary River, 26-year-old Sean Cole and a friend went for a late night swim at the weekend.

His friend made it back to shore safely but a large crocodile dragged Sean underwater.

A 4.8m crocodile was shot soon after Sean's body was discovered near where the attack occurred early Monday.

According to the NT News, the Mary River is home to one of the largest salt-water crocodile populations in the territory.

Warning signs around the resort warn visitors not to go within 5m of the water's edge.

Sean was the third person to be killed by a crocodile in the Northern Territory since November last year.
