Man to face court after throwing axe at police officer

A MAN has been charged with a range of assault charges after he threw an axe at a female police officer.

Police were investigating reports of an assault and animal cruelty incident in Cressbrook St, Toogoolawah last night when, at about 9.20pm, they located a man armed with an axe and a knife.

Police directed the man to put the weapons down, and it will be alleged that the man pointed the axe at two male senior constables and threatened to harm them.

It will be further alleged that the man threatened a female senior constable before throwing the axe at her.

Officers drew their service firearm and a taser, and the man was taken into custody without incident.

The officers were not physically injured.

A 24-year-old Blackbutt man has been charged with three counts of serious assault police, one count of assault police whilst armed, two counts of going armed to cause fear, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of liquor, and one count of injuring animals.

He is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court today.
