Man dies after truck trailer detaches

UPDATE: Police have closed the Glenelg Highway for a number of hours this morning as part of the ongoing investigation into the fatal incident. 

Investigators from the Police heavy vehicle unit were in place to understand if the cause of the collision may have been a mechanical failure.  

Heavy vehicles and cars were diverted around the investigation site where the ute driver in his 60s was hit by a detached logging truck trailer. 

It is understood the truck driver is assisting police with their inquires. 

MARCH 30th: A TRAILER has unhooked and veered into oncoming traffic, killing the driver of a ute. 

  It is believed a truck was travelling along the Glenelg Highway, east of Coleraine Victoria about 7am, when its trailer detached from the cabin.

  The trailer then veered onto the other side of the road, colliding with an oncoming utility.  

The sole occupant of the ute believed to be in his 60's, died at the scene.   The truck driver is assisting police with their enquiries.

  The exact circumstances of the collision are yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing.
