Man critical after concrete fall
A BANORA Point man remains in a critical condition after more than a tonne of concrete fell on him at his workplace in Murwillumbah yesterday.
A spokesman for the Gold Coast Hospital said the 34-year-old was in an induced coma in the intensive care unit after undergoing major surgery yesterday afternoon.
The man was assisting a forklift driver at Aus Pits manufacturing company in Buchanan St just before 7am (NSW) when a 1.2 tonne concrete stormwater box slipped from the forklift hitting the man on his head and right arm.
Ambulance paramedics transported the man to Murwillumbah Hospital, before transferring him to Tweed Hospital and finally Gold Coast Hospital yesterday afternoon.
He suffered severe head injuries, a collapsed lung, internal bleeding and bleeding on the brain.
WorkCover NSW has begun an investigation into the incident.
