Man charged with toddler murder

HOMICIDE Squad detectives yesterday charged a man with the murder of a toddler in Coffs Harbour four months ago.

The two-year-old girl was admitted to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital on Wednesday, March 30, suffering severe head injuries.

She was airlifted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, where she died two days later Friday, April 1.

A post mortem examination revealed the toddler had suffered significant head trauma, including a fractured skull.

Detectives from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad formed Strike Force Embley to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

About 2pm yesterday, a 44-year-old man was arrested by police at a Coffs Harbour residence and charged with the child's murder.

He was refused bail to appear in Coffs Harbour Local Court today.
