Man accused of threatening life of boy in siege refused bail

A MAN who allegedly held a three-year-old boy against a window and threatened to kill him during a violent siege in Sydney at the weekend has been refused bail.

For a tense 45 minutes, police surrounded a Punchbowl home where a man had allegedly kicked, punched and knifed a 48-year-old woman before grabbing a young boy late on Sunday.

The home was cordoned off as negotiators tried to reason with the man, who was allegedly holding the boy and making threats to kill him.

About 6.30pm police forced their way in and tasered the man, who was allegedly still armed with a knife.

The woman was hospitalised with knife injuries to her head, chin and arm but the boy was uninjured.

The alleged attacker was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, detaining a person with intent to obtain advantage and contravene an apprehended violence order.

Police believe the siege was linked to an ongoing domestic dispute.
