UPDATE: A 43-year-old man reported missing in crocodile-infested waters at Mitchell River yesterday has been located this morning.

Police coordinating a search at Mitchell River and Surprise Creek located the man around safe and well after he failed to return from a fishing trip over night.

EARLIER: Police will launch a major search operation around crocodile-infested waters at remote Mitchell Creek this morning after a man failed to return from a fishing trip.

According to police, the 43-year-old man was last seen at Mitchell River, about 27km north of Kowanyama, yesterday about 3.30pm and he intended to go fishing before meeting with a group of associates later in the afternoon.

Police were contacted at 9pm last night when the man failed to return.

Overnight, police conducted a number of inquiries but the man remains outstanding.

Crews will begin a search at the site at first light.
