Magpies destroy Bombers with 94 to 49 win

THE Byron Magpies' charge towards the local Aussie Rules premiership continued on Saturday when they disposed of the Ballina Bombers 14.12 (94) to 7.7 (49).

Despite the margin, the first half was an intense contest in front of a great sponsors' day crowd at Ewingsdale.

Matt Shaw kicked five of the Magpies' 14 goals and Shem Aitken was a good foil.

When ever Shaw was shut down, Aitken would fill the corridor.

The Bombers were only two points down at quarter-time and two goals at half-time but the double loss of Jake McPherson and Liam Stafford with ankle injuries saw them struggle in the second half.

Jesse Leeds, Josh Robinson and Chris Braggs tried hard for the Bombers.

Dave Smith, the Magpies' gun midfielder, smashed the second half and Jake Corbett on the half back line was inspirational.

In the other game on Saturday, the Lismore Swans went down to the Tweed Tigers 9.12 (66) to 4.8 (32). Robina had the bye.
