Lunatics on Pogosticks take Unearthed High title

LOCAL band Lunatics on Pogosticks have taken out this year's triple J Unearthed High competition.

With the win announced this morning, the three Lennox Head lads Bryce Wilson, James Whitfield and Calum Newton, are overjoyed with the news.

Tom and Alex surprised the band's singer and guitarist Calum with the news on triple j breakfast this morning - who was evidently pretty stoked on the win:

"Oh, Gnarly. That is so Gnarly. That's wicked. Yes. I'm so stoked. That's so wicked," Calum said.

The three-piece shot to popularity with some killer indie tunes full of catchy guitar lines, throwback 90's choruses and scuzzy, lo-fi home production. Check them out here.

They beat out over 900 high school bands from around the country to take home the title, including other finalists - Vancouver Sleep Clinic, Jaysways, Cypher, When We Were Small and Under Scarlet Skies.

Lunatics on Pogosticks now join Asta, Snakadaktal, Stonefield, Hunting Grounds and Tom Ugly as Unearthed High luminaries, and will be flown to triple j's studios in Sydney to have their music professionally recorded.
